Jay Jay French Starts The Pinkburst Project for Charity (02.02.11)
Bienstock & Michael client and Twisted Sister member Jay Jay French has founded the Pinkburst Project, a charity dedicated to the research, education and support of those affected by Uveitis, the leading cause of blindness among American girls. The Project is a collection of custom guitars and amplifiers from the world’s most popular brands, built to raise awareness and ultimately fund ongoing research, education and support for The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation. These one-of-a-kind products will be offered for sale through Skinner Auctioneers Fine Musical Instruments Department on Sunday, May 1, 2011. In addition, Twisted Sister will perform a special concert at NYC’s Best Buy Theater on April 29 to benefit the Pinkburst Project.

Bienstock & Michael successfully argued against a foreign musical instrument manufacturer’s motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The Court accepted our argument that although employees of the foreign company made only four trips to the forum state, its influence over the marketing and sale of its products and its close relationship with its thirteen-year exclusive US-based distributor, a Florida resident corporation, viewed collectively, rose to the level of business activity found to support specific jurisdiction.

Ron Bienstock Moderating Two Panels at 2009 Miami Music Festival (12.10.09)
This Friday, December 11, Ron Bienstock will be moderating two panel discussions at the 2009 Miami Music Festival.

The first panel, from 12:50-1:50pm, will be “When to Call a Lawyer, and Who to Call.” It will discuss finding and working with a lawyer, important things to consider about your band name, what to do if someone is infringing on your copyright, submitting your music to contests, and other things you may not have even thought about. The second panel, from 3:50-4:50pm, will be “Starting Your Own Entertainment Company.” It will address important topics such as defining what product or service your company is going to provide, people issues involving partners, investors, accountants, and lawyers, setting yourself apart from your competitors, staying afloat in this economy, and planning for growth in the future.
